Fish Head - Toggin Thursday - Patience paid!!

Had Chris, Jon G, Pete and Mike"Shore Thing" out toggin. No doubt it was a brutal day!! No bite, poor conditions and FREEZZING cold. By 10am all we wanted to do was go to Kelly's!! By 1:00pm we only had 4 fish in the box. Made 4 moves with nothing to show. Had to make a drastic move and the 5th drop paid off!! By 4PM we had our limit of all quality fish. Few 6s and 8s. Pete won the pool with a 10 and Chris popped his cod cherry. Patience paid off....and we got lucky of course on a tough day of fishing!!

Fish Head - Catch/Release Stripers

Tuesday had John, Tom and Ben from Cape Cod come down to experience some December Bass fishing Jersey style. Sporty conditions with a hard south wind but the fish cooperated. We had a hot bite for about 3 hrs off Sp. Lk until the tide changed then it was search mode and pick a few here and there. They played catch and release with over 30 bass mixed in size from shorts to some FATTYS. Shads and Jersey J's crocs made a difference!!

Fish Head - Saturday Blackfish trip

Had Dave Chris and Niel out today. Tough bite in the morning. By noon we only had a few in the box. Once the tide turned the bite got a little better. Mostly no measure keepers and a few in the 5-7lb range. Worked hard for them all day and put together a catch of 23 keepers just shy of our limit. A quick stop on the way in produced a few bass and blues.

Another great day on the water!!

Fish Head - Blackfish report

On Saturday we hosted the Rudy Bruno charter for an annual blackfish trip. The full moon has the the bite very picky. We managed over 25 fish although only about 8 of them were keepers. Very picky bite. Put in some extra time to see if the bite turned on with the tide change didn't happen. Chased some birds on the way home and boated some bass and bluefish. Still had a blast but a tough day fishing!!

Fish Head - Sunday Bass Fishing Limits +

Headed South again to the Barney Bass bite. Had Jim E and the J crew on a trip that we had on the books for over a year with many cancellations.. Ended up with a 6 man limit plus bonus tag fish. Had a few nice bass mixed with blues in the morning and then dealt with a 3 hr lull until traffic cleared and tide changed. Then game on! Great crew and another great day on the water.

Fish Head - Father & Son Striped Bass Action

Today we had Dennis Sr and Dennis Jr on board for a bass mission. 11 yr old Dennis Jr had never caught a bass and was anxious to catch his first one all on his own. Conditions were sporty with the S winds and high seas but this crew wasn't phased by it! They figured out the jigging techniques and had steady fishing all morning. Kept some for the table and went to release mode. It was great to see the excitement of them reeling in fish......Dennis will have soar arms tomorrow in school!!!! Another great day on the water!!!

Fish Head - Canyon report Swords and LFT

Canyon fishing went from red hot to not!! Botched forecast made for a slow ride out. Got set up on the chunk around 5pm. Read some fish but no tuna takers. We did manage 2 swordfish. Released the smaller one and boated the other. 74 inches (jaw to fork)..personal best for me so I was excited. A couple blue sharks and nothing else all night. AM troll produced 1 shot of Longfin. We got piled on by 3 and boated them but couldn't buy another bite all day.

Lowrider - Shea Inshore Charter

We had Brian and friends out for what was an inshore troll trip. Well after hearing about slow Bluefin and green water inside we decided to run out to clean water. Working our way from the Baccardi to the Texas Tower we got our shot for the day out in the Tower area when a tuna blew up on the bird and never came tight. After pounding the area we worked toward the Chicken and some of the worst looking water I've seen in a long time, we picked up and run in to hit some pots in the Glory Hole area which had been picked over by the time we got there. I decided to pick up and run way in side and we finally found some Bluefin mixed in with Bluefish on top. Tried everything to get past the 10-15 lb Blues after donating several jigs and and circle hooks you just couldn't get past'em even though you could see the Bluefins streaking past the Bluefish we got a Tuna Skunk for our efforts...Sorry Boys.

Fish Head - Adam Ackerman Charter

Saturday we had the Adam Ackerman charter. 4 brothers looking to have a nice day on the water and bend some rods. Had a nice morning...started the day looking for some light tackle bluefish to no avail. All boats were looking and searching but they were thin. Switched over to fluke and had a decent bite. Boxed up 8 nice keepers and many shorts with a few sea bass in the mix. Went back to bluefish-ing .....again nothing. We were going to take a ride to the pots to look for mahi but the inshore waters were dirty and green and the wind came up hard so we headed for the barn. Overall decent fluke bite but that's about it. Always a fun day on the water!!

Possible New IGFA record Blueline Tile Caught, fillet, and eaten on the Lowrider...ouch

We had the Kratter Charter out for an overnight canyon trip on 7/30-7/31. We put the lines in short of the canyon and came tight on our 1st and only 50lb YFt. Before we set up for the night the charter wanted to drop for Tiles so we found a spot and our 1st drop produced a 23lb Blueline Tile. We ended up on the drift and went 1for 3 on swords . The morning troll was slow so we poked around some more for tiles and put 2 more Bluelines in the box an 18lber and a 14lber, which at the time I didn't think much of... Before cutting the fish Mark made George weigh the tiles on our hand scale and they went home. Well today I find out from Capt Arthur we had just cut up a potential IGFA world record... and some very respectable Bluelines..The current record holder can breath easier now but I have the Numbers, and who knows if we caught Mama...OUCH!!!

Lowrider - Larsen Bluefish Charter

We had John Larsen out with some friends to bend the rods with some Bluefish. It was a little slow as they wouldn't hit jigs or chunks.. We went on the troll and picked away at em. I think we were getting reaction bites as they seem to still be on the spawn. Well the troll produced and they kept 6-7 for the table and we released a bunch, all bigger fish 10-15 lbs. All in all not a bad day. See you for a canyon trip, thanks guys!

July 24, 2011

Lowrider - Reynolds Family Bluefish Charter w/22lb Mahi!

We had the Reynolds family out to bend the rod on some Bluefish. They had some fun with Blues up to 15lbs, keeping only 6 for the table. Talked em into going off a little ways to look for some small pelagics and ended up trolling up a 22lb Mahi! Great fight on light tackle and we put him in the boat to end a fun day...

Lowrider - Canyon Trip 7/9 -7/10

We headed out for a little break on a crew trip to see what was up offshore on Sat. Slid into to canyon and put 2 bars out a little short of the edge and got bit right away and went 2 for 2 on YFT,10 mins in,usually the kiss of death. Trolling up the east wall we got 2 more bites and boated both.Went on the slide for the night and all was quiet for us except some pilot whales having fun with our shark floats. Up on the troll in the morning and we got a 2-fer and dropped one. Got a couple more bites and put another one in the boat and lost another and had several clean misses on the spreader bars. After we pulled em in ,ended up 5 for 7 on 40-50lb YFT. It should continue to get better ....

Lowrider - Striped Bass with the Arnold Charter

We had Jorden his son and several friends out Saturday evening for a Striper trip. After disappointing am reports we headed up north to see what we could find. It was slow going only picking a couple Blues so we moved back to where we had the bait earlier, and started with the spoons. We were able to pick some bass to 35 lbs and with several bass cherries broken we ended up going 3 for 8 with some nice bass! Thanks guys for great but tough night.
